Dancer: Samantha Ead
This is where the fun begins, this is where the magic happens…
I believe photography and dance, particularly ballet, are two artforms that when combined, perfectly highlight the best of both artforms.
The artistry a dancer brings, their lines and shapes they create, combined with the elements of shadow and light, timing and composition, work harmoniously together to capture that one amazing moment.
Shadow and light.
Shadow and light are powerful elements in their own right and while photography is about certainly about ‘painting with light’, there can be no light without shadow.
A key component of my style is shadow play, using darkness accentuated with light to highlight the form and physique of each dancer, with their own personal style, creating their own unique image.
Ballet portraits.
Specialising in both dance photography and portraiture means I love to combine the two. Capturing the grace, beauty, strength and character each dancer uniquely brings.
Whilst not always following traditional portraiture as such - that is, facing to the camera - but using elements of ballet, contemporary or other forms of dance and even combining different styles of fashion, location or props to bring something personal and artistic to each portrait.
PAS De Deux.
Just as shadow and light are elements of photography, pas de deux is at the heart and sole of ballet and almost all forms of dance. Opening up a whole new field of creativity, pushing both dancers to excel and capture what’s possible individually and together!
